Meeting Recap

Just in case you weren’t able to make the general body meeting of The Empower Campaign last night, here’s what you missed:

  • The Empower Campaign is going national! While The Empower Campaign’s first student chapter was founded at Ohio University, it has since spread to the campuses of Ohio State University, Miami University of Ohio and the University of Dayton. Now we want even more students to get involved! In order to spread the word, a new video was made over the summer with information about Empower and the important work that the student chapters accomplish. Check it out and be inspired by watching the video here.
  • The 5K is quickly approaching! The race will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10 at noon and it starts at Ping Recreation Center. Register today at www.empowercampaign.org!
  • Membership requirements are more defined this year. All new members are asked to pay $25 for the first quarter, which covers your $15 volunteer t-shirt and your $10 quarterly dues. The dues are new this year, but will be used for the small costs of running a student organization, like reserving funraising and meeting spaces and printing flyers. Members will also be required to dedicate two education hours (attendance at an African Studies or Anthropology event on campus), four mandatory service hours (volunteering at that quarter’s mandatory fundraising event, which is the 5K this quarter) and two general service hours (volunteering at regular events like jewelry sales or beer tastings).
  • If you are interested in being a member of Empower, please contact Katie Devlin at kd265607@ohio.edu.
  • We have two jewelry sales trainings this week. One is tonight (Thursday, Sept. 10) at 8 p.m. in Bentley 023 and the other is Sunday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. in Bentley 023.
  • Keep checking this blog for regular updates and follow us on Twitter. Our new student website will be revealed by the end of next week!
